In Dominican Voodoo, the Loa spirit, El Baron Del Cementerio (The Baron of the Cemetary) is also a gate keeper to the spiritual world. He is associated with the Catholic Saint Elias of Mount Carmel. His colors are black and white and his sacred symbol is a cross. El Baron Del Cementerio is married to La Barona. Together these two very powerful spirits are the keepers of mysteries of powerful black magic spells. Most of the spiritual work done in the name of El Baron Del Cementerio or La Barona are ritually performed in the cemetery. The Loa spirit, El Baron Del Cementerio has various spirits of the underworld that work for him in the cemetery to assist him with a variety of special spiritual requests. These spirits are called Gede. The Primary Gede spirit is called "Papa Gede". Spiritual offerings to El Baron Del Cementerio are usually done on Mondays at his altar directly in front of a statue of Saint Elias or in front of a framed picture of this saint. The Monday ritual consists of offering him the smoke of a cigar, a glass of rum, a white and black candle and a cup of black coffee. Once the offerings have been placed on his spiritual altar, the "Our Father" prayer is said to his powerful Loa to open up spiritual communication. This particular spirit also enjoys other food offerings such as corn, roasted peanuts, fresh coconuts and coconut candy.
